Reverend Harold H. Brauer died on March 17, 1998 (St. Patrick’s Day). Until his death, his mind remained active. During his last year or more he was confined to a wheelchair because his second round of hip replacements had begun to fail causing him to lose mobility. The main condition leading to his death was congestive heart failure, which he battled for some time, losing considerable weight.
During his latter years, he engaged in a variety of seated activities. They included reading. He especially enjoyed biographies. He also did marquetry for many hours. In addition, he engaged in other hand crafts that could be done while seated.
