Radio Devotions

During his ministry, Rev. Brauer conducted devotions on radio stations in Ogden, Utah (KLO), Logan, Utah (KVNU), Shawano, Wisconsin (WTCH) and Green Bay, Wisconsin (WBAY and WDUZ).

 

These eleven recorded devotions are the only recording that preserved his actual voice. These eleven were part of a weekly program at KVNU called “Lutheran Vespers”, broadcast on Mondays. Rev Brauer provided devotions for that program for nearly 2 ½ years from 1946 to 1948.

 

The devotions were captured on 3 CDs from the original 16 inch, 33 1/3 rpm radio transcription disks at the KVNU station. Each disk had a capacity of 15 minutes of recording. Much later a project created the CD files in cda format. Finally, the CD files were converted to mp3 and wav formats. At the time of the original recordings, there were no tape or computer systems to make recordings that could be played at a later time. Note that the original disks were larger than the general music 12 inch 33 1/3 rpm commercial recordings. A machine in the studio cut the transcription recordings. Grooves were not as tightly spaced as were commercial 12 inch records.

 

The original transcriptions were on 11 sides of 7 platters. The platters were preserved by Rev. Brauer and his family. CVC Productions, Windermere, FL made the conversions to CDs in May 2005. A couple of the transcriptions had deteriorated and lost some quality. The conversion process included filtering of background noise from the recordings to enhance the actual voice content of the recordings.

 

During his ministry in Utah from 1944 to 1949, Rev. Brauer served St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogden, Utah as his primary congregation. He also started other Lutheran churches, including Calvary Lutheran Church in Logan, Utah. The latter served faculty, staff and students at Utah State University and others in the Logan area.

Beside the actual voice recordings, this website contains text transcripts of the voice recordings. Website users may access and print a transcript before listening to a voice recording as an aid to follow the devotion.
